A month into the state’s coronavirus pandemic, Lyon County has its first death related to the virus.
Lyon County Public Health says the patient, a white woman in her 70s, tested positive April 13. Contact investigations are ongoing. The people who have been identified as close contacts have been quarantined at home and are being monitored for symptoms, including fever, cough and difficulty breathing.
Lyon County Public Health also announced six new confirmed positive tests Sunday, pushing the total to 77. The number of probable positives dipped from 22 to 21, meaning Lyon County’s total caseload is at 98. The number of recovered patients remains at 31.
Coffey County is the only other area county with deaths related to COVID-19. It’s currently reporting six fatalities as part of its overall caseload of 45.
All other area counties have reported cases, but Chase, Greenwood, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties have a combined total of 10 positive tests with no fatalities. Other area counties have not yet reported for Sunday, and Coffey County won’t make an announcement until Monday.
