The Emporia Farmer’s Market is announcing a delay to the start of the 2020 outdoor market season due to COVID-19.
The announcement was made Tuesday in accordance with “direct recommendations from the Lyon County Health Department.” In a news release, Market Manager Jessica Hopkins states, “We hope to open as soon as it is deemed safe, but no later than Saturday, May 30. Wednesday evening markets will begin, as scheduled, on June 3.”
Hopkins also stated the market will continue to offer a limited number of their CSA-style food bags on Saturday, May 2 and Saturday, May 16. Residents wishing to receive a food bag may preorder them by calling 620-343-6555 or emailing emporiafm@gmail.com.
Once the season gets underway Saturday markets will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 am in the parking lot at 7th and Merchant. Hopkins says they will be implementing a “variety of social distancing practices to ensure a safe shopping environment.” This includes extra space between booths, all vendors wearing facemasks and gloves and one-way shopping aisles.
