It was just before six o’clock Sunday morning when I fired up my KVOE app so The Neon Beat would play in my ear helping me fight off my morning blues.
Tegan Trahoon was finishing up his recorded overnight news and he said: “ Scott Hays will have KVOE’s first news of the day at six fifty-five.”
My ears perked up thinking that can’t be accurate? Scott Hays and Lisa Sage got married yesterday. I certainly hope they aren’t starting their second day of marriage by Scott getting up at five o’clock and going to work! Some honeymoon!
But, sure as my name is Steve Sauder, Scotty was at work. I called him and he explained our new work schedule at KVOE has him responsible for Sunday mornings. I hope Lisa understands Scott made that schedule!
You know what? Scott’s dedication is just an example of the commitment our staff at KVOE demonstrates daily.
This challenge with the Coronavirus is a prime example.
Ron Thomas, of course, sets the example. He’s coming off a grueling year as Drive Chair for Emporia’s annual United Way that was interrupted with his Director changing jobs and then in the stretch run of his drive this virus pops up.
But, Ron hasn’t missed a beat. He and Erren Harter are knee-deep in the Greater Emporia Area Relief Fund effort.
Harter may be our unsung hero filling many roles for KVOE during these trying times.
How about Chuck Samples? His effort has been awesome. Along with Tegan Trahoon, our Covid19 coverage has been accurate and timely.
Greg Rahe is our sports guy. He literally creates sports-related information daily that provides a much-needed diversion for our listeners. He’s also our technical set up guy on lots of remote broadcasts.
The rest of our staff has stepped up to keep things moving. An example would be Karri Kimberlin our office guru who is doing her difficult job remotely and Tim Miller and his crew assisting our advertisers as they adjust to their challenges.
Our goal at KVOE for 34 years has been to “be a servant to our community” I’m like a proud Poppa because my crew is serving the Emporia area in an awesome manner.
Let me finish with this from Facebook.
The spread of COVID-19 is based on two factors:
- How dense the population is, and
- How dense the population is!
Nuff said. Thanks Scott and our KVOE staff, and congratulations to Scott and Lisa.
I’m Steve Sauder
