Several local and area schools have received recognition for their work with students.
The Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force has announced over 90 recipients of its Challenge Awards, including:
*Logan Avenue and Riverside elementary schools in Emporia
*Burlingame Elementary
*Madison High School
The Challenge Awards recognize schools improving student achievement despite “significant challenges in their school populations.”
Meanwhile, the Kansas State Department of Education, www.character.org and Smoky Hill Education Service Center have given USD 456 Marais des Cygnes Vally an Enhanced Spotlight Award for the district’s social-emotional program, which identifies, refers, counsels, educates and supports students and families on social-emotional topics. This award recognizes efforts to strengthen social, emotional and character development skills.
