The Lyon County Commission is taking its latest precautionary step in response to COVID-19.
During its weekly action session, Thursday commissioners approved a request from County Controller Dan Williams for the purchase and installation of plate glass within county offices. The purpose for the glass is to help create separation between county employees and the public.
Commission Chairman Rollie Martin says this effort is essential as the commission is working on plans to reopen the courthouse to the public in the coming weeks. Martin says when the courthouse does reopen it will not be an instantaneous process but a gradual one.
While Martin says the reopening process should begin within the next few weeks, an exact date has not yet been determined. Martin says any reopening, gradual or otherwise, will be dependent on the glass installation.
The glass is expected to arrive by next week, however, whether the installation process will begin at the same time or a later date is pending the commission’s next action session on Thursday.
The purchase and installation are being done through AAA Glass Services for a total cost of $28,812.
