Emporia Main Street needs your votes as they are now one step closer to receiving another national recognition and a $25,000 grand prize.
Emporia Main Street has been named as one of the top 25 semifinalists in the America’s Main Streets competition organized by Independent We Stand. Nearly 80 different main street organizations were amongst the quarterfinalist selections.
Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods says being a part of the top 25 is a major accomplishment for the organization.
If Main Street were to win the competition it would be the third national award for the organization in the last 15 years after being named USA Today’s Best Main Street in 2016 and winning the Great American Main Street award in 2006. Woods says the recognition would not only be a win for Main Street but also for all of its supporters throughout the region.
The competition seeks to raise awareness for the importance of supporting local businesses with the winner receiving a $25,000 grand prize. Last month, after Emporia Main Street was announced as a quarterfinalist, Woods told KVOE News if Main Street claimed the grand prize it would be put towards supporting entrepreneurship in the local community.
Semifinalist voting is now open through May 24 with the winner set to be announced on June 2. Residents can vote — more than once — by going online to www.emporiamainstreet.com or by visiting Mainstreetcontest.com.
