51st District Representative Ron Highland of Wamego offered his thoughts on the state’s response to coronavirus during KVOE’s Morning Show on Wednesday.
Highland expects the COVID-19 impact will be worse than the $1.3 billion hit listed by the Consensus Revenue Estimating Group, and he explained why on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Wednesday.
As Governor Laura Kelly plans to end the statewide stay-home order, perhaps making the announcement Thursday, Highland says decisions of that nature have to come at the local level.
Highland says the state responded as well as could be expected, given “everybody was caught off guard.” He says the state will plan for the future with a stockpile of supplies and more emphasis on a “rainy day fund.”
Lawmakers were supposed to go into the annual veto session on Monday. Now they may not return until the week of May 11.
