Plans are developing for a full return of face-to-face learning at Emporia State University for the fall 2020 semester.
In a news release Thursday, ESU announced it is planning to resume “some face-to-face classes” in the second half of the summer session beginning Jun. 29. The main goal is to fully resume all in-person classes by the start of the fall semester.
According to the news release, the main priority for the university as it continues its planning continues to be the safety and well being of ESU students, staff and faculty. In the release, President Allison Garrett says, “Already we know that when we do return to campus, it will be with additional safety measures like wearing masks, continued social distancing, sanitizing, cleaning and sanitizing some more.”
An official date for when staff and students will return to campus has yet to be determined, however, once the university determines an official date, all staff and students will be given sufficient prior notice.
Garrett also acknowledged that even if classes resume as normal in the fall, there will likely be noticeable differences around campus. Additionally, President Garrett noted that as COVID-19 is ever-changing and the university is hopeful for a “face-to-face” fall semester, they are also developing contingency plans to be prepared for “whatever COVID-19 throws our way.”
