Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact locally, Newman Regional Health has announced the cancellation of its largest annual fundraiser.
In a news release Monday, Newman announced the Board of Trustees approved the cancellation of the 2020 Denim & Diamonds fundraiser following recommendations by hospital administration, Business Development staff, and the Denim & Diamonds committee. In the release, Board Chair Mike Argabright stated, “the Board recognizes this was a difficult decision for those who have been working so hard on this year’s event but felt it was the right decision to make for our community at this time.”
This year’s Denim & Diamonds Gala was scheduled to take place Friday, Aug. 7 at Emporia State University’s Webb Hall. Funds from this year’s fundraiser were earmarked for the relocation and renovation of Newman Therapy Services which would have brought them onsite to Newman allowing for “more convenient care for patients.”
Hospital CEO Bob Wright says in the aforementioned press release, “ it is our hope that those in a position to do so will consider maintaining their sponsorship or pledge toward the therapy project this year, as the need for these funds is now greater than ever.” Over the next few weeks, Newman plans to reach out to their Denim & Diamonds supporters to “announce plans for the 2020 event.”
