Thankfully, nobody was home when fire started in a rural Americus house and caused major damage before it was put out.
Emporia and Americus firefighters were toned out to 581 Road 260, about three miles north of Americus, around 11:45 am. The fire had fully engulfed the house by noon, prompting firefighters from Allen-Admire, Chase County, Dunlap, Miller and Reading to respond.
The roof of the house caved in before the fire was extinguished. Additional damage reports are pending.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The origination point is also to be determined.
