Governor Laura Kelly is grateful state residents have responded to repeated urgings from health officials to take ongoing steps to slow the spread of coronavirus, but she once again asked residents to keep up those efforts.
After several days of no news briefings, the governor held a briefing Wednesday. Kelly did not give a status report on Phase One of the state’s recovery effort, which started Monday, but Health Secretary Dr. Lee Norman did — and he said it’s too soon to know how well this early stage is going.
The governor says the state is planning for the risk of a second wave of cases in the fall, and she says data will determine whether the state has to reissue stay-home orders.
Separately, Norman said the state is working with different external partners — and awaiting word from the federal government — on different testing platforms, including a saliva test as a more pleasant alternative to the nasal swab.
The governor’s new briefing schedule is Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 2 pm. We’ll continue airing the briefings live on 14 KVOE, 96.9 FM and KVOE.com.
