Donations continue streaming into the Greater Emporia Disaster Relief Fund, and grants continue heading to area businesses and nonprofits as a result.
Fund organizers announced close to $17,000 in grants during the KVOE On-Air Chat on Wednesday. Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods says around 60 businesses have applied, and the recent announcement of the state’s COVID-19 recovery plan has helped to solidify the business landscape to a degree.
United Way of the Flint Hills Director Mickey Edwards says the nonprofits receiving this money are helping their respective communities in several ways.
Grant recipients and awards:
*$1,000 grants go to Kaps Daycare Kids, Wee Care Daycare, and Daylight Donuts
*$1,500 grants go to the Commercial Street Diner, Lyon County History Center and Emporia Farmers Market
*$2,000 grants go to Designs by Sharon and Emporia Child Care
*A $2,500 grant goes to Emporia Presbyterian Manor
*A $2,650 grant goes to SOS Child Visitation Center
Emporia Community Foundation Director Becky Nurnberg says close to $150,000 has been donated to the fund.
