The Kansas Department of Labor says the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program is now accepting applications.
The PUA extends unemployment insurance eligibility to self-employed workers, freelancers, independent contractors and part-time workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s retroactive to Jan. 27 and provides benefits until just after Christmas.
Kansas Labor Secretary Delia Garcia says people who apply and are approved will also receive the extra $600 weekly payments through the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program, which started March 29 and ends July 25.
The Kansas Department of Labor expects to start paying PUA benefits by May 25. For more information or to apply, go online to www.PUA.GetKansasBenefits.gov.
