Evergy is expanding its community giving with a $2.2 million program to help agencies, communities and customers respond to the coronavirus pandemic.
Evergy will earmark $800,000 in grants through a Hometown Economic Recovery Program offsetting business needs like business attraction and retention or workforce training and development. Applications will start June 1 for grants announced in August, with another round of applications in August for awards announced in October. Evergy will also invest in small business loan funds through Network Kansas and the GKC COVID Small Business Relief Fund.
Evergy has already pledged $400,000 to its Emergency Grant program, which helps frontline nonprofit agencies as they deliver essential community services, and it has already disbursed an unlisted amount of money through the program..
In addition, Evergy is committing up to $1 million for several programs helping customers with energy payments, including Dollar Aide and Project Deserve.
These ventures are on top of Evergy’s $6 million annual giving amount to agencies and organizations in its coverage area.
