Just over two months after the United Way of the Flint Hills’ Campaign Celebration was tentatively postponed due to coronavirus, the event has now been rescheduled — although not in the way it was originally planned.
The Campaign Celebration is at noon Thursday and will be held on Facebook. United Way Director Mickey Edwards won’t divulge the final total until Thursday, but she credited Community Impact Manager Hannah Crowl and drive chair Ron Thomas for their work.
The goal has been $560,000.
The original plan for this year was to have the event March 25 at the Bowyer Community Building before coronavirus changed a lot of plans for community events. The virtual event Thursday will be shorter than recent celebrations at Emporia State University, but it will also contain the final fundraising total as well as recognitions and awards.
Edwards says operations for the United Way haven’t changed that much since COVID-19 began impacting the area, aside from work shifting out of the office. The United Way has been busy, however, as part of the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund.
