Services are planned for one-time KVOE announcer Denny Privat, who passed away Wednesday at age 70.
Private services will take place at a later date, with a public visitation from 6-8 pm Tuesday at VanArsdale Funeral Home of Osage City. Memorials can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence in care of the funeral home.
Privat was born in Emporia in 1949 and graduated from Osage City High School in 1967 before getting a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Emporia State University. Former KVOE news director and account executive Roger Hartsook says Privat marked the end of an era in local broadcasting.
Privat was a full-time announcer for the afternoon shift and did some play-by-play while at KVOE in the 1960s and 1970s.
He also had a lengthy career as a mail career after his radio career ended.
Privat is survived by four children, nine grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
