Personal responsibility has been an ongoing feature of the Lyon County Public Health and Emergency Management message with the coronavirus pandemic now better than two months old, and it was highlighted again with the state now into the first full week of Phase 2 of the recovery process.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Monday, Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell mentioned concerns about recent media coverage of large-scale gatherings — with few, if any people, using masks — as the country begins reopening. Fell recognizes the desire to get back to normal, and he’s asking residents to interact safely.
Fell said county health officials are encouraging mask use in public, including restaurants, but he also said some concerns are readily apparent in a dine-in setting or other places like in-person meetings.
Fell urged business owners to have employees wear masks, but he also encouraged them to rely more on disinfectants like soap or hand sanitizer instead of gloves because of the possibility of so-called contact spread with gloves.
Fell also reminded residents Lyon County is using the same COVID-19 restrictions as the state, including limits on mass gatherings to 15 people or less, the reopening of restaurants, arcades, movie theaters, museums and bowling alleys and the return of organized sports tournaments under social distancing guidelines. He’s pleased the number of active cases continues to drop, but he also expects the pandemic will continue for some time.
