Lyon County residents — if you’re interested in commenting on the current draft of zoning regulations, your time to do so is coming to an end.
The deadline is the close of business Tuesday. On KVOE’s Morning Show recently, City Zoning Specialist Joe Foster says this will cause a major shift in focus to so-called form-based zoning. It also eliminates outdated zoning matters from the past 20 years.
Foster says he’d like to see the plan adopted by the end of the year, although that timeframe may have to be altered due to coronavirus. He says the plan is lengthy but is actually more concise than either the current city or county zoning regulations. He also does not agree with recent concerns the new zoning would make Lyon County like a “homeowner’s association,” but he understands the contentions nature of zoning issues
The current plan is available online at the city’s website, www.emporia-kansas.gov, and the county’s website, www.lyoncounty.org. The plan is also available on the city-county Planning and Zoning Facebook page.
