The state’s Ad Astra recovery plan is undergoing a major change following Governor Laura Kelly’s announcement of a new emergency disaster declaration.
The new declaration follows the governor’s announcement she will veto House bill 20-54 during a special news briefing Tuesday afternoon. Among several changes the new declaration will “remove” the state’s Ad Astra plan with the plan now acting simply as guidance for Kansas counties.
According to Lyon County Public Health Officer Renee Hively her current recommendation is to follow the Ad Astra plan’s original guidance with more details likely to be announced at the Lyon County Commission’s weekly action session Thursday morning. Hively says she is concerned about what the public response could look like in the coming weeks.
Governor Kelly made it clear that just because she is lifting certain orders does not mean that the COVID-19 threat has lessened. She pointed to a recent gathering at the Lake of the Ozarks over the weekend which led to the issuance of a self quarantine advisory for those who were in attendance.
Hively says the developments at the Lake of the Ozarks were sobering.
