The risk of moderate or even heavy rainfall is coming down, but a river-based flood warning has been announced northeast of Emporia and two roads in north Lyon County have been closed.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Marais des Cygnes River above Reading until 5:25 pm Wednesday. The river was under 8 feet Tuesday morning but should climb above the 19-foot flood stage by late afternoon, and crest near 22.4 feet by evening. The current forecast has the river going below flood stage before midnight. This would be above the 21-foot level where low-lying farm fields and campsites along the river start to flood.
A flood warning for the Salt River near Lyndon has been canceled.
Meanwhile, the Lyon County Highway Department has closed Road K between Roads 310 and 320 as well as Road 310 between Roads K and L. Two Lyon County roads, 150 between N and P and K-7 between 65 and 70, were closed Friday due to heavy rainfall. Four other roads have now been closed for nearly 10 days due to flooding earlier in May:
*Road 130 between Roads F5 and G
*Road 180 between Roads S and T
*Road C-3 between Roads 300 and 307
*Road U between Roads 155 and 170
