The United Way of the Flint Hills is thanking area residents for another big fundraising event.
Director Mickey Edwards announced the total on the United Way’s Facebook page Thursday:
Edwards says the effort was big for the United Way as a whole and its 24 community partners in an eight-county coverage area.
Drive Chair Ron Thomas, who has been on the United Way board for several years, says his time as drive leader gave him a chance to see the community partners’ dedication.
Both Thomas and Edwards credited the work of Community Impact Manager Hannah Crowl on both the campaign and the search for a new director, including a stint as interim director before Edwards was hired.
The United Way also announced its annual award winners:
*Comunity Partner of the Year: Building Blocks Community Child Care of Council Grove
*Business Partner of the Year: ValuNet FIBER
*Spirit Award: Newman Regional Health Campaign Committee
The drive was unique in several ways, from prior director Jami Reever’s departure at the start of the effort to coronavirus at the end to several new fundraisers — jazz concerts by the Emporia State Music Department and the KVOE-United Way Morning Show Auction — in between.
