The city of Emporia will be reopening its offices to the public at the start of the week.
According to a news release from City Clerk Kerry Sull, offices will reopen to the public on Monday. The list of offices and facilities reopening includes:
Water Department/Utility Billing
City Manager’s Office
City Clerk’s Office
Human Resources/Personnel
Accounting/Finance
City Engineering
Code Services
Community Development
Municipal Court
Police Department
Public Works Department
David Traylor Zoo
Municipal Airport
Municipal Golf Course
Assistant City Manager Lane Massey says the opening is occurring in accordance with phase two of the Ad Astra advisory document. Massey says if the city counters a large resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the coming weeks, the offices could be closed off yet again.
Not included on the list of reopenings are Emporia Fire Stations one and two. Massey says they will be keeping the stations closed off to the public for the time being to continue reducing first responder’s risk to exposure.
The city is continuing to stress residents follow best health practices including maintaining six-feet of social distance when visiting any city offices. Additional restrictions may be implemented on a departmental basis.
The city’s plans follow the announcement from Lyon County Commissioners Thursday mornning to also open the courthouse to the public on Monday.
