Candidate filings at the state level continue ahead of Monday’s candidate filing and withdrawal deadline.
Democrat Todd Maddox has filed to challenge incumbent 60th District Representative Mark Schreiber of Emporia for his seat this fall. Maddox filed Wednesday and is a relative newcomer to the political spotlight having run unsuccessfully for Emporia City Commission last year.
When asked what motivated him to run for office, Maddox stated he has been concerned with what he perceives as a lack of procedure within the Kansas Legislature in recent weeks.
So far Maddox is the only individual, Democrat or Republican, to challenge Schreiber for the 60th District Seat.
Separately, Democrat Stephen Vecchione filed Friday to challenge 17th District Senator and Kansas Senate Vice President Jeff Longbine of Emporia. Comments from Vecchione will be coming later this week.
