The race for the US Senate seat opening up when Pat Roberts retires this fall has gotten even more crowded.
Derek Ellis of Topeka filed Friday. A Republican, Ellis is now one of nine Grand Old Party candidates for the seat — with well-known candidates like former Secretary of State Kris Kobach and Kansas Congressman Roger Marshall running alongside former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Dave Lindstrom and lesser-known candidates, including Lance Berland, Bob Hamilton, Brian Matlock, Steve Roberts and Gabriel Robles.
Two Democrats have filed so far: Kansas Senator Barbara Bollier and Robert Tillman.
The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is at noon Monday.
