With outdoor temperatures continuing to rise Safe Kids Emporia is reminding parents and families about being mindful when it comes to having their children in the vehicle.
According to Bev Long of Safe Kids, 53 children passed away nationwide last year due to being left in a hot car. Long continued stating there has already been one death related to a child in a hot car this year in Texas.
Long explains this can happen for a number of reasons including parents inadvertently forgetting their child in the vehicle or children simply getting into the car without a parent knowing. With temperatures in the low to mid-90s forecasted through the majority of the week Long says parents need to be more vigilant than ever.
Long offered some helpful tips to assist parents such as leaving intentional reminders within the vehicle to ensure their child is not left behind.
Long also calls on local residents to maintain their vigilance and to contact 911 if they witness a child left inside of a vehicle no matter where it may be. For more information visit Safekids.org.
