NASCAR’s Cup series doesn’t return to action until the weekend, but Emporia native Clint Bowyer says it’s time for fans to return to the racetracks.
NASCAR has kept fans away from races due to COVID-19 since resuming the season, and that policy will stay in place through at least June 21. Bowyer is quoted by Motorsport as saying he’s ready to have fans back in the stands.
“We’re starting to see other racing, people in the stands, everything else,” Bowyer told Motorsport. “You’re starting to see racing going on with fans in the stands, (with) social distancing, stuff like that. A place like Bristol – honestly, it’s the first time I really felt like, ‘Man, it’s empty.’ Kind of felt that empty feeling where even racing out there, you can feel the vibe.”
Bowyer finished second at Bristol behind Brad Keselowski this past Sunday and now sits 12th in points overall. He says it was the first time this season the track felt “empty.”
NASCAR goes to Atlanta for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 on Sunday.
Off the track, NASCAR announced it is heading to Nashville for the 2021 Cup season. This is the first time NASCAR will have a Cup event at Nashville and marks the first time since 2011 for any NASCAR event in the city. Dover is giving up one of its races as part of the move.
