Graduates of Emporia High School and Flint Hills Learning Center can finally get their diplomas Sunday.
The school has put together a combination online and on-site event to give seniors their day after coronavirus took the original event off the schedule. Principal Dathan Fischer says the first half, including comments from him, Superintendent Kevin Case and Board of Education President Art Gutierrez will be part of the ceremony along with music from some Emporia High Chorale and Orchestra students. That starts at 1 pm. The second half takes place at the school beginning at 1:30 pm.
Fischer says the best way for students and parents to access the on-site ceremonies is to drive north on Graphic Arts and go directly to the parking lot near the tennis courts. Cones and barricades will direct traffic from that point.
Roughly 380 students, including seniors from Emporia High and graduates from Flint Hills Learning Center, will get their diplomas.
The ceremonies will be livestreamed on www.emporiaproud.com and KVOE-TV at KVOE.com. Commencement will also air on ValuNet channel 3.
