Chase County is now the second area county to end coronavirus restrictions.
In a special meeting Monday, Chase County commissioners decided to let the current emergency resolution limiting mass gatherings to 25 expire at midnight Monday without any additional action, meaning restrictions have ended. Commissioners encourage residents to follow the state’s health and safety guidelines, including social distance, frequent handwashing, avoiding touching your face and staying home if ill or feeling unwell.
Chase County follows Greenwood County, which ended all restrictions a week ago. Coffey County, which has announced it plans to adhere to Governor Laura Kelly’s Ad Astra recovery plan, changed from Phase 2 to Phase 3 on Monday, meaning mass gatherings of 45 people or less, the opening of all businesses, more on-site employment, a gradual increase of visits to long-term care facilities or correctional facilities and other steps.
Lyon County went to a modified Phase 3 on Thursday. Osage County went to a 90-person mass gathering maximum late last month until June 15. Morris County is in Phase 3 until further notice. Wabaunsee County is also in Phase 3 until June 10.
In other business, Chase County announced the courthouse is now open for essential business only. The Treasurer’s Office will process renewals, taxes and title work by appointment, although walk-ins will be worked into the schedule. The drivers license area is still off limits. Once it reopens, renewals will be by appointment only and limited to Chase County residents.
