Emporia Fire Crews responded to a reported gas leak in central Emporia Tuesday evening.
According to Batallion Chief Tony Fuller, the leak was discovered by residents at 1012 Sunnyslope who had just returned home following a three to four-month “self-quarantine” in Kansas City. Upon entering the dwelling the residents reported the smell of gas and a hissing noise and contacted their landlord who instructed them to contact 911.
Upon entering the home, Fuller says fire crews detected a gas-like odor and could hear a hissing noise. Crews then shut off the gas and contacted Kansas Gas.
An exact cause of the leak has yet to be determined, however, initial indications are the cause may have bee due to a “faulty appliance” most likely a stove. No injuries were reported.
Further details are currently pending.
