Isolated power outages continue across the KVOE listening area with gusty winds continuing Wednesday morning.
Emporia only had one outage as of 9 am, but it affected Village Elementary — and as a result, it adjusted the Emporia School District’s Grab-and-Go meal plan for the day even though the outage was cleared quickly. Grab-and-Go meals will be available only at Walnut and William Allen White schools from 11:30 am to 1 pm. The district apologizes for the inconvenience and expects to be back to normal Thursday if there are no power outages.
Evergy reported over 520 customers in and around Eureka lost power during the overnight hours. Those have all been restored. Small outages also developed in and around Americus, Lebo, Olpe, Madison and Reading, and the outages in Madison continue at this time.
Flint Hills Rural Electric Cooperative, which serves parts of Lyon, Chase, Morris and Wabaunsee counties, and 4 Rivers Electric Cooperative, serving all area counties, have not announced whether they had any overnight outages.
The outages come after a strong cold front barreled across the area Tuesday night, triggering wind gusts as high as 55 mph at the Emporia Municipal Airport — among the highest in the state — and 47 mph at the Eureka Airport. Wind advisories continue until noon for Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Osage and Wabaunsee counties.
