Inattentive driving was the cause of a two-vehicle collision in central Emporia Thursday evening.
Emporia Police and emergency crews responded to 1200 West 12th Avenue, in front of Newman Regional Health, shortly before 8 pm for a reported injury accident. According to officers on scene, a Jeep Patriot was eastbound on 12th Avenue when the driver of a westbound Oldsmobile Intrigue crossed the center line and struck the Jeep on the passenger side.
Officers say the driver of the Oldsmobile was “fumbling with something in the vehicle” at the time of the accident. One individual was examined on scene but required no further medical treatment.
Officers say a citation was issued, however, further details are not being released. Traffic in the east and west bound lanes was blocked for over an hour as the vehicles were removed from the scene.
