Monday night was an active night for Emporia Fire Crews with thankfully little to report.
Fire crews were called to an apartment complex at 1014 Sylvan Street shortly after 9 pm for a potential chemical leak. A second call for a poisoning followed 10 minutes later at the same location.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Bill Harmon says a resident of the complex reported detecting a strange odor and began to feel ill leading him to believe he may have consumed some form of chemical substance. Harmon says upon investigating firefighters found no sign of a chemical substance and believe the individual was simply feeling ill due to natural causes.
Less than 20 minutes later, fire crews responded to a possible structure fire at a residence located in the 1200 block of Prairie Street. Harmon tells KVOE News no flames, smoke or damages were found in or near the residence upon investigation.
