Cancer does not stop even in the midst of a crisis, but thankfully neither does the American Cancer Society and local residents will have an opportunity to support the ACS next month.
The annual Relay for Life of the Flint Hills is still on the community calendar this year, although with a few adjustments due to coronavirus. First, the event will be taking place a bit sooner than normal on Jul. 31 and will not include the traditional walk due to COVID-19.
Thankfully, Relay spokesperson Melanie Curtis says they will be keeping one special activity going this year and the entire community is invited to take part. On Jul. 31 at 8 pm Relay for Life will hold its traditional luminaria ceremony.
As with many traditional activities this year, the ceremony will take place in a drive-in format.
The cost of a luminaria is $10 with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. Anyone wishing to purchase one can email RFLflinthills@Gmail.com, call 620-215-3865 or contact Central Care Cancer Center.
