The Emporia Junior baseball team was 2-0 on day 1 of the Emporia Summer Slam tournament Saturday.
The 17s opened the tournament with a 18-0 3 inning run rule win over Garnett. The 17s blew the game open with a 10 run 2nd inning. Cam Geitz, Vance Kinsey and Bobby Trujillo each drove in 3 runs. Cal Kohlmeier was the winning pitcher giving up only 1 hit in 3 innings.
The 17s closed out the first day with a 11-1 win over Iola. Emporia set the tone with a 5 run 1st inning. They added 2 runs in the 2nd and closed out the game with a 4 run 4th inning. Cam Geitz was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI.
Hunter Redeker was the winning pitcher going 4 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts.
The 17s will play El Dorado at 2pm Sunday.
The Championship game is set for 4pm at Sodens Grove.
Games resume at 8am with Salina vs Hays.
At 10am Garnett will play the winner of the Salina vs Hays game.
at Noon Iola will play the Topeka Senators.
