SOS Strong is off and rolling.
The formal kickoff was held at Hammond Park on Monday.
The sixth annual fundraiser brings attention to the ongoing SOS effort to end domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. Director Connie Cahoone says the program helps to keep SOS is a good position financially, even if certain funding streams disappear through the course of the year.
Seventeen men are involved this year, including KVOE News reporter Tagan Trahoon. Having covered the event the last two years, he felt drawn to take part this year.
Each participant is trying to raise at least $1,000 for the cause. They have also taken a pledge to lead by example, not blame victims, be a positive upstander rather than a willing bystander, not engage in any acts of violence, and always speak for what is right.
To donate, go online to www.soskansas.com and click on the SOS Strong link. You can choose your donation amount and the SOS Strong Ambassador you want to support.
The awards celebration will be July 22 at Lyon County State Bank, 902 Merchant.
SOS Assistant Director Devon Swartz will have more on KVOE’s 7:15 am Newsmaker segment Tuesday.
