It’s that time when fireworks will be popping in and around Emporia.
The official sale and discharge period begins Saturday. Legal hours are 10 am to 10 pm Saturday through Thursday, 10 am to 11 pm July 3-4 and 10 am to 10 pm July 5.
On KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Fire Marshal Reason Bradford reminded residents of basic fireworks safety.
Fireworks are prohibited on public land, meaning parks, parking lots and city, county or state property. They are also prohibited within 200 feet of an assisted living facility.
Bradford says the number of fireworks vendors is currently down from prior years, with around 10 vendors for Lyon County as a whole, only three of which are in the Emporia city limits. Another three are in Emporia’s metropolitan area, or the area stretching about three miles outside the city limits.
