The work’s not done for members of the Greater Emporia Area Disaster Relief Fund, even with Lyon County edging closer to ending its coronavirus restrictions.
The Lowther Building Fund received $750 during the latest announcement on KVOE’s On-Air Chat. United Way Director Mickey Edwards says other potential grants are still being looked at.
Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods encourages local business owners to research all the assistance methods available, including the relief fund. He also says the fund’s positive impact on local and area businesses is becoming more widely known over time.
Over $3,000 was donated to the relief fund over the past week. Community Foundation Director Becky Nurnberg encouraged monetary contributions, but she also said the Community Foundation can accept other donations as well.
The relief fund, developed as a collaboration involving the Emporia Community Foundation, Emporia Main Street, United Way of the Flint Hills and KVOE, has now amassed over $190,000 in contributions and has disbursed almost $160,000 to businesses and nonprofits in an eight-county coverage area.
