A persistent line of thunderstorms has dropped a lot of rain in a concentrated area Thursday morning.
Over 2 inches of rain has fallen at the KVOE studios since around 4 am as a line of storms developed from northwest Morris County through Emporia and down towards Moran. Other area totals:

*Downtown Emporia: 2.75 inches
*David Traylor Zoo: 2.3 inches
*Coronado and Rio Vista: 1.2 inches
*Hammond Heights: 2 inches
*South and Sylvan: 2.3 inches
*South Avenue and Walnut Grove: 2.9 inches
*Seventh and Garfield: 1.6 inches
*Ninth and Burns: 2.8 inches
*10th and Weaver: 1.4 inches
*23rd and Hillcrest: 1.2 inches
*Allen: 0.10 inches
*Neosho Rapids: 0.80 inches
*Olpe: 0.25 inches
*Saffordville: 2 inches
Flood alerts are up. Central Lyon County, including Emporia, is under a flash flood warning until 9:30 am. Northeast Chase County is in a flood warning until noon. Urban and small stream advisories are up for Lyon County until 8:45 am.
The only reports of flooded roads are in the 900 and 1000 blocks of Road 150 just south of Emporia. However, if you come across water over roads, be sure to follow the National Weather slogan, “turn around, don’t drown.”
We’ll keep you updated on the flooding risk and the return of heat — with heat index readings perhaps as high as 108 south of Emporia today. Heat advisories continue for Coffey County from 1-8 pm and for Greenwood County until 8 pm.
