One man accused of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and drug possession after an incident where numerous bullet holes were discovered in an Emporia dwelling nearly two months ago will have a pretrial hearing at the end of July.
Miguel Renterio, age 48, has a hearing July 29 in Lyon County District Court.
Renterio was charged with single counts of assault and meth possession after officers went to 18 South West to serve a warrant and, according to court documents provided to KVOE News, became uncooperative. Renterio was armed and Emporia Police said he made a motion like he was reaching for the weapon. Officers grabbed his arm and took the gun without further incident.
In the investigation that followed, officers said they found numerous spent .22-caliber and 9-millimeter shell casings in the house. They also found bullet holes in the floor, walls and ceiling — several of which appeared to be exit holes leaving Renterio’s house towards a nearby house, restaurant and the skateboard area of Santa Fe Park. Prosecutors estimate several hundred bullet holes in the house.
Besides that evidence, officers say they found several rifles, guns, ammunition, knives and a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine in the house.
