A decision about whether the Lyon County Fair will take place may be coming this week. Regardless of the decision, the Fairgrounds have seen a major improvement recently.
The longstanding information sign at 12th and Industrial is now digital, a step that Fair Board Vice President Jeremiah Corpening says has been under discussion for “quite some time.”
The sign is mainly being used for upcoming events on the Fairgrounds, although some area events have been posted. Corpening says Fair Board members may consider a second sign on the south end of the property at some time, but that discussion point is well off into the future.
The Fair Board is waiting for Lyon County’s decision on whether to continue the reopening process with COVID-19 still impacting the state. If the current Phase 3 regulations stay in place as announced a month ago or if further restrictions are added, the fair would not be allowed. The Fair Board has already canceled the carnival, making that announcement late last week.
