(chiefs/omnisports) The Kansas City Chiefs have announced they will have reduced capacities if fans are permitted to attend NFL games this season.
There will be plenty of empty seats when the Chiefs kick off the new season and begin their Super Bowl title defense at Arrowhead Stadium on September 10 against the Houston Texans.
The Chiefs are anticipating that the NFL will issue guidelines that includes reduced capacity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Chiefs have contacted season ticket holders to inform them of the decision, giving them the option to defer their tickets to 2021. They can also receive a refund.
All single game tickets purchased thru the Chiefs will be issued an automatic refund. For tickets purchased through a resale marketplace will need to visit the marketplace used to review their options.
The Chiefs, who have one of the NFL’s largest stadiums with a seating capacity of over 75,000, did not put a number on how many fans they will permit, but they plan to sell reduced-capacity tickets for the first few games. The hope is then local regulations will allow for more fans to attend as the season progresses.
Season Ticket holders who decide to keep their payment as a credit towards 2021 will also receive the following benefits:
* STMs will be automatically included in a single-game pre-sale for any available seats in 2020, once a final capacity is determined.
* Their credit can be utilized to purchase single-game tickets for a reduced-capacity 2020 season, if they choose.
* They will receive their 2020 Season Ticket Member box with exclusive gifts.
* STM pricing will remain flat for 2021 and they will accrue a year of STM tenure for the 2020 season, regardless of if they attend any games or not in 2020.
* In the event that the club is permitted to host a full-capacity crowd for any potential playoff games, STMs that did not opt for a refund will be given the first opportunity to purchase their seats.
* Parking or hospitality club passes purchased as part of a Season Ticket Membership can be managed exactly like tickets – either as a credit for 2021 or a full-refund, if requested.
