Heavy thunderstorms have brought borderline severe activity to the KVOE listening area early Thursday morning.
There was a wind gust right at the 58-mph baseline criteria half-a-mile south of Emporia. Another wind gust of 54 mph was noted at Elmdale.
Small power outages developed near BETO Junction, Council Grove, Eureka, Hamilton and Olpe, with a larger outage near Neal in eastern Greenwood County affecting over 60 Evergy customers. A transformer fire at Emporia’s Tyson facility did not cause a power outage and was related to unsecured plastic blowing into the equipment as opposed to a lightning strike.
Rainfall totals vary from light to moderate in most cases, with isolated higher amounts.
