The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has announced three new positive COVID-19 cases have been identified in individuals within the Lyon County Detention Center.
Sheriff Jeff Cope stated that the Sheriff’s Office was notified of the new cases Thursday. The new cases included two inmates and one Lyon County Employee from a separate department, all of whom were asymptomatic.
The new cases follow the discovery of two cases in inmates last week and one case involving a Lyon County Detention Center employee two weeks ago. Cope says it is unclear at this time whether the cases are directly connected.
Cope says all of the positive individuals are currently in isolation. He says the jail has three medical isolation cells with positive air pressure with any air in the cells being vented directly out of the building.
Cope says the jail has also cleared a full pod to place positive inmates inside of in case more cases begin to pop up.
Cope says the Sheriff’s Office and detention center staff and inmates will continue to undergo regular COVID-19 testing and says the current situation is “frustrating” as all of the recent cases have been asymptomatic, making them difficult to anticipate.
