The Lyon County Emergency Communications Center is looking to help improve emergency call quality through an upgrade to their current system.
During the Lyon County Commission’s weekly action session Thursday morning, LCECC Director Roxanne Van Gundy submitted a request to purchase ProQA Emergency Medical and Emergency Fire online dispatch protocols for the center. According to Van Gundy, every medical call the center processes is done through emergency medical dispatch protocols.
She says the current protocols are all in card format requiring dispatchers to flip through a card set and ask questions in the midst of a call. Van Gundy says the plan is to add in fire protocols and move the entire process to an online format.
The total cost of the new protocol system is just over $154,000 which will be paid for with a mix of 911 funds and an NG911 grant according to Van Gundy.
Van Gundy says the protocols are a major resource for dispatchers to provide initial guidance as individuals in need awaits the arrival of emergency personnel. She says it is critical to keep up the protocol standard to provide the best service possible to all residents in the midst of an emergency situation.
Commissioners chose to table a decision on the purchase until next Thursday as there is a venue selection clause in the project’s contract which needs to be resolved ahead of the county giving formal permission to move forward with the purchase.
