(YAHOO SPORTS) The Kansas City Royals announced that catcher Cam Gallagher had tested positive for COVID-19 after participating in Friday night’s instrasquad game at Kauffman Stadium.
The positive result for Cam Gallagher came as a shock to the team and to Gallagher himself. In a statement, Gallagher says he’s experienced no symptoms and felt great during Friday’s game.
Gallagher, who homered in Friday night’s intrasquad game, was placed on the 10-day injured list. Catchers Salvador Perez (COVID-19) and Meibrys Viloria (undisclosed) were placed on the 10-day IL last weekend.
The Royals have wrapped up their first week of summer camp, Manager Mike Matheney says it has been a good week.
Alex Gordon says a good start will be key for the Royals.
The Royals are scheduled to open their season July 24th at Cleveland.
