Coffey County is announcing two new cases of COVID-19.
The Health Department made two separate announcements Saturday, giving no details about the first announced case and mentioning the second case is a minor female from the north half of the county. Close contacts have been notified and have been told to quarantine for 14 days.
The Health Department is not offering much additional information about separate announcements from USD 243 Lebo-Waverly and USD 284 Chase County about a USD 243 student recently exposed to the virus. It does say school officials “in proximity to the newest case” have canceled school activities for the upcoming week — making that decision before the Health Department started investigating the second case. The Health Department says the decision to cancel activities for the week does not reflect its guidance.
The cases announced Saturday are Coffey County’s only active cases. Coffey County now has 55 cases since March, when the pandemic began.
