After the Kansas State Department of Education placed its plan for reopening schools in August in the hands of superintendents across the state last week, administrators have been hard at work solidifying plans for the upcoming academic year.
The “Navigating Change 2020” document serves as a framework for Kansas school districts providing useful tips and information for how best to safely reopen schools next month. USD 386 Madison Virgil Superintendent Stu Moeckel says the document is “extensive,” however, it is also malleable to fit the needs of any school regardless of its size.
Moeckel went on to say that the document has validated many of the plans the district has been developing over the past several months. He adds, the new guidance is helping take those plans from conception to reality.
KVOE has reached out to other local superintendents for their perspectives on the document. The document was developed utilizing the input of more than 1,000 Kansas residents associated with education.
Full details on the document are scheduled to be released to the public during a special news briefing from Governor Laura Kelly Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm. You can tune into the news conference on KVOE 1400 am, 96.9 fm and KVOE.com.
