An injury crash near Emporia’s east city limits resulted in a hospital trip for one person Wednesday.
Emergency personnel were dispatched to Interstate 35 mile marker 135, or near Emporia’s east city limits, around 7:50 am. Emporia Fire took Kaitlin Ferman, age and hometown not listed, to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries after a southbound vehicle crashed. Lyon County deputies say the car rolled down an embankment after Ferman went from the southbound outside lane to the median, overcorrected and then went across both southbound lanes into a ditch.
Ferman was wearing her seatbelt and got out of the car on her own before deputies and rescue workers arrived.
Ferman told investigators she fell asleep at the wheel before the wreck.
