Effective next week, two national retailers with a local presence are telling customers to mask up or not show up.
Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer is mandating mask usage starting Monday, making the announcement Wednesday to give customers time to prepare and associates time to train on new protocols. Walmart says about 65 percent of its 5,000 stores are in areas where there is some form of government mandate on mask usage, so this move will bring consistency across the store chain.
Kroger, which owns Dillons, will have all customers wear masks beginning next Wednesday. The company says the move reflects the spread of COVID-19 nationwide.
The National Retail Federation is now urging the creation of a national standard on mask usage to be implemented locally.
