Lyon County deputies are investigating an injury crash that happened early Thursday near Bushong.
Deputies and Emporia/Lyon County EMS were called to the junction of US Highway 56 and Road F shortly before 12:45 am for a rollover crash. Deputy Eric Williams says an SUV driven by 17-year-old Nicholas Wheeler of Emporia was southbound and went off the road for unknown reasons. Wheeler then overcorrected, sending the SUV off the highway where it rolled.
Wheeler and one of three passengers, 16-year-old Lucas Bolin of Olpe, were both ejected. Two other passengers, 17-year-olds Michael Cameron and Alexander Redick, both of Emporia, got out of the SUV under their own power.
Wheeler and Bolin were taken to Newman Regional Health for suspected serious injuries. Cameron went to Newman Regional Health by private vehicle for suspected minor injuries. Redick, the only person in the vehicle wearing his seatbelt, declined treatment.
Wheeler was cited for failing to maintain his lane and for not wearing a seatbelt.
